Jesuits in the Arts
Saint Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, encouraged Jesuits "to find God in all things." This was his way of affirming the goodness of all of creation and his belief that God interacts with us through creation.
Hence, from the earliest days of the Society of Jesus, Jesuits have ministered through working as artists, sculptors, musicians, actors, dancers, stage directors, poets, novelists, playwrites, architects, photographers, puppeteers and even clowns.
In June, 2007, an Institute for Jesuits in the Arts was held at Fordham University. A sampling of works displayed and and a summary of presentations can be found here.
